Dubbed PM971-NVMe, the new SSD features an extremely compact package that comes with all the essential components including the controller, DRAM, and NAND flash memory. The new lineup of SSDs will be offered to laptop and PC markers in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage variants later this month. Sequential read and write speeds are said to be 1500MB/s and 900MB/s, respectively.
Jung-bae Lee, senior vice president of Memory Product Planning & Application Engineering Team at Samsung Electronics, said, “Samsung’s new BGA NVMe SSD triples the performance of a typical SATA SSD, in the smallest form factor available, with storage capacity reaching up to 512GB. The introduction of this small-scale SSD will help global PC companies to make timely launches of slimmer, more stylish computing devices, while offering consumers a more satisfactory computing environment.”
Samsung plans to introduce more NVMe SSDs later this year to rapidly expand its market share in the next-generation premium laptops, tablets, and hybrid computing machines.
