Two years ago, it seemed foolish to think of a phone with 3GB RAM. But fast forward to the present, and you’ll see not one, but many smartphones incorporating this feat, and that too at unbelievable prices. We’ve seen all types of smartphones with different form factors, specifications, and various sizes over the past year, but it is the sub-Rs 15000 segment that has been on fire in recent times. Here are the top five smartphones (in no particular order) priced below Rs 15,000 featuring a mammoth 3GB of RAM.

LeEco Le 1s

LeEco (formerly Letv) has marked its arrival in the Indian market with the launch of two smartphones. While the Le Max is a premium device, its younger sibling, Le 1s, doesn’t fall short of the title. The LeEco Le 1s features a unibody metal design that gives it an edge over its rivals. The near bezel-less display measures 5.5-inch diagonally and offers a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. To top it off, the smartphone is extremely slim at just 7.5mm. On the hardware side of things, the device comes with a powerful octa-core Helio X10 processor from MediaTek clocked at 2.2GHz. The Le 1s offers 32GB of internal storage with no room for expansion. There is also a 13MP camera on the rear, and a 5MP front camera for selfies. A non-removable 3,000mAh battery powers the hardware in the device. Android 5.0.2 Lollipop runs below the company’s own skin called eUI. The Le 1s is priced at Rs 10,999 and is sold via flash sales on Flipkart.

Lenovo Vibe K4 Note

Last month, Lenovo launched the much anticipated K4 Note. For music enthusiasts, it has a treat in the form of twin front-mounted Dolby Atmos speakers. Priced at Rs 11,998, it went on sale from January 20th, 2016. Early buyers can even take advantage of a VR Bundle offer for a little extra cash. Under the 5.5-inch 1080p display, the device houses a MediaTek MT6753 octa-core processor and 3GB RAM. While heavy games might tend to lag a bit, light gaming is as smooth as butter. It also features support for expandable storage, 4G LTE and NFC. The company has left no stones unturned in order to make sure it checks all the boxes. Below the 13MP rear camera lies a fingerprint scanner, a nice addition to an already feature packed device. There is also a 5MP front camera for selfies. A light version of Lenovo’s Vibe UI runs atop of Android 5.1 Lollipop on this smartphone.

Honor 5X

Huawei has launched the Honor 5X at Rs 12,999 with quite a few changes from its predecessor, the Honor 4X. First of all, the smartphone now features a metal unibody design that is surely a big step forward from the plastic used earlier. Featuring dual-SIM capability with 4G LTE support, it can prove to be a tough nut to crack for its competition. It runs EMUI 3.1 on top of Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. The front of the device is dominated by the 5.5-inch 1080p display and the 5MP front camera while the back houses the fingerprint scanner and the 13MP rear camera. An octa-core Snapdragon 616 chipset powers the smartphone. There is 16GB of inbuilt storage that can be expanded further with the help of a microSD card. A non-removable 3,000mAh battery provides the juice to run the hardware. It is available to purchase via Flipkart.

Coolpad Note 3

Coolpad has brought the 3GB RAM war right below the Rs 10,000 mark. At just Rs 8,999, the Coolpad Note 3 is one of the first phones to reach this feat. And that too, along with a fingerprint scanner. The display panel is a 5.5-inch screen with a resolution of 1,280 x 720 pixels. While we’d love to see a full HD display here, it might just be asking too much given the features it provides in its segment. Taking care of the camera department is a pair of 13MP and 5MP cameras for the rear and front respectively. It runs Android 5.1 Lollipop with Coolpad’s own COOLUI 6.0 on top. Powering this device is a 64-bit MediaTek MT6753 octa-core Processor. A 3,000mAh battery provides the juice to run the Coolpad Note 3. And if this wasn’t enough, users can even expand the storage beyond the 16GB internal memory using a microSD card.

Xiaomi Mi 4

The Xiaomi Mi 4 was launched in India almost a year ago. And over time, it has received quite a few price cuts. The 16GB variant of the phone is priced at Rs 14,999. With this, you get the current flagship from Xiaomi, but one needs to keep in mind that the Mi 5 launch might not be too far off, at least in China. The Mi 4 packs quite a punch, and is fairly compact featuring a 5-inch 1080p display with a pixel density of 441ppi. Under the hood is the good old Snapdragon 801 which is a quad-core chipset clocked at 2.5GHz and is aided by the Adreno 330 GPU along with 3GB RAM. It sports 13MP and 8MP shooters on the back and front respectively. While the big 3,080mAh battery and the inclusion of an IR blaster are some nice additions, the lack of expandable storage and no support for Indian 4G LTE bands neutralise these to some extent. The phone runs MIUI 7, with Android 4.4.4 KitKat as base. The folks at Xiaomi have promised an update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow for the smartphone in the near future.
Apart from the aforementioned devices, there are several noteworthy smartphones that came close. Micromax offers the Canvas 5 with one of the most beautiful designs in its portfolio and some pretty decent specs. Among the plethora of devices launched by ASUS in the ZenFone category, is the ZenFone 2 Laser ZE550KL offering a balance between the hardware and price. And finally, the Coolpad Note 3 Lite is a nice new addition which can give many smartphones a run for their money.
