Smart Wear
Recomended
As an active user of Goal+, I can see the Gear S2 compatibility being most useful while in meetings. Just a couple of weeks ago, England were playing Wales in UEFA EURO Group stages. Unfortunately, this specific match was being played at mid-day and I was unable to pull out my phone to check the score. However, if I had Goal+ on my Gear S2, I would have simply been able to glance at my watch to see the score.
If you’d like install Goal+ on your Gear S2, simply open up the official Samsung Gear application, then locate and select the heading entitled Samsung Gear Apps. Once the store loads, tap the Search button and type in ‘Gear+’. A list of results will appear. Click the first entry and, finally, press the button entitled Install. After a few seconds, you’ll receive a notification informing you that the app has been downloaded.

The software update has a file size of 61.1MB and firmware version R732XXU2DPFB (for the Gear S2 classic) or R730XXU2DPFB (for the Gear S2 Sport). It brings My Photo watch face, social sharing for activities, automatic sleep tracking, new S Voice commands, a new contacts app and widget, and other new features to the smartwatch.
You should read our Gear S2 update preview along, which contains screenshots of all the new features, to know more about the update. If you’ve installed the update already, which features do you think the Gear S2 is still missing?

The update will be the biggest yet, and the headline feature for many is likely to be the ability to use their photos as backgrounds in watch faces. Using personal photos as a wallpaper on phones is something everyone does (or has done at some point), and it is only natural that the feature be made available on a smartwatch. After the update, the Gear S2 will also start offering watch face recommendations and will let users install these watch faces from the watch itself.
This will extend to recommended apps as well – Samsung basically wants you to use the paired smartphone less often, which is why the update will also add the option to post exercise stats to Facebook directly from the watch. The Gear S2′s fitness tracking abilities will also be getting improvements, as the update will add a sleep monitor, a feature that probably should have been there from the start.
Other changes will include the addition of UV index information in the weather app, the ability to start a timer using S Voice, and a menu for managing notifications when there are no unread notifications available. We’re told the update will roll out sometime in the coming weeks, although there’s no concrete time frame. With a big update such as this, Samsung is likely going to make sure everything is right before making it available to consumers.

He spoke highly of Samsung’s virtual reality headset, saying that “It takes you to other worlds. It’s so real. It’s everywhere you look. That one gets me emotional.” He also appears to be a bit sad that Apple hasn’t come out with a virtual reality device yet, hoping that the company is working on a VR device that’s “advanced compared to the ones we’re seeing.” Who knows when Apple is going to step into the world of VR but at least we know that Samsung will continue working to cement its position in the VR market.

Samsung’s booth at the expo will showcase a variety of digital outdoor signage solutions under the “Collaborate. Attract. Engage” theme. These displays can be used for advertising, content delivery, and information display management in corporate, hospitality, public, retail and at-home environments.
“As the world’s leading total digital signage solutions provider, we strive to discover new avenues that help our partners deliver captivating content and a differentiated experience at every stage of the customer journey,” said Seog-gi Kim, Senior Vice President, Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics.
The South Korean display giant will start releasing its new P Series digital signage solutions featuring Samsung SMART Signage Platform 4.0 (SSSP 4.0) powered by Tizen, which allows improved graphical performance, faster response times and loading speeds, and an optional PC-less all-in-one screen. They will also offer HTML5 support for launching web-based apps.
These displays will also feature Samsung’s MagicInfo Server 4.0 program that allows management of the entire display network from any location, easier content programming, drag-and-drop content scheduling, Backup Player, and DataLink content streaming. Samsung will also showcase its slim yet durable and glare-free PHF and PMF display series.
Attendees will also be able to have a look at the company’s OHF large format displays in a variety of sizes: 46-, 55-, 75- and 85-inch models with a brightness of up to 2,500 nits and 5,000:1 contrast ratio. They can operate in harsh weather with operating temperature ranging from -30-degree to 50-degree Celsius.

I have to say; it’s great to see Samsung updating a two-year-old watch with even the most minor of updates. At present, it’s unclear if the unit will receive the long-awaited Android Wear 2.0 overhaul, which will carry a whole host of new features, including a redesigned navigation interface and revamped music controls. Although, it does look promising as the Gear Live’s hardware is more than capable of running the OS. It all boils down to whether the South Korean company believes there’s enough demand to warrant the time needed to adapt the software for use on the device.
